Biography

Blessed Manuel Galcerá Videllet, also known as Manuel Galcerá Videllet, was born on 1 June 1901 in the town of Caseras in Tarragona, Spain. He dedicated his life to the service of God and the Catholic Church, leaving a profound impact on those he encountered.

Manuel pursued his religious studies at the seminary in Zaragoza, Spain, where he received a solid formation in theology and spirituality. After completing his studies, he was ordained as a priest on 1 June 1901.

In August 1906, Manuel joined the Hermandad de Sacerdotes Operarios Diocesanos, an apostolic congregation of Diocesan Laborer Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Through this religious order, he sought to live a life of humility, simplicity, and devotion to God.

Throughout his ministry, Blessed Manuel Galcerá Videllet served in various cities, spreading the message of Christ's love and compassion. Among the places he ministered were Zaragoza, Tarragona, Badajoz, Ciudad Real, Valladolid, Beaza in Spain, Cuernavaca in Mexico, and Rome in Italy. He was known for his gentle demeanor, deep spiritual insight, and dedication to his flock.

Sadly, the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War in July 1936 brought about a time of great persecution for Catholics in Spain. On 20 July 1936, Blessed Manuel was arrested by anti-Catholic forces in Baeza, Spain. He endured weeks of imprisonment, facing relentless persecution for his faith and role as a priest. Despite the harsh conditions, he remained steadfast in his commitment to Christ and the Church.

Tragically, on 3 September 1936, Blessed Manuel Galcerá Videllet was martyred for his unwavering faith. He was brutally murdered in Ibros, Jaén, Spain, solely because he was a priest and a devoted servant of God.

In recognition of his martyrdom, Pope Francis declared the veneration of Blessed Manuel on 29 September 2020, issuing a decree that acknowledged his heroic virtues. The beatification ceremony took place on 30 October 2021, presided over by Pope Francis, at the Cathedral of Nuestra Señora Santa María in Tortosa, Spain. This significant event celebrated his beatification and honored his sacrifice for the faith.
