Biography

Blessed Manuel Alvarez Y Alvarez, a Dominican priest, was born on 16 March 1871 in Llanuces, Asturias, Spain. He dedicated his life to serving God and his fellow human beings through his religious vocation.

During the turbulent period of the Spanish Civil War, Father Manuel Alvarez Y Alvarez bravely stood up for his faith and principles, even in the face of persecution. He witnessed firsthand the violent conflict that tore through his country, pitting ideological factions against each other.

Further recognizing his sanctity and the impact of his martyrdom, Pope Benedict XVI proceeded to beatify Manuel Alvarez Y Alvarez on 28 October 2007. This beatification ceremony honored his life and martyrdom, elevating him to the position of Blessed within the Catholic Church.
