Biography

Blessed Lorenzo Insa Celma, also known as Father Lorenzo Insa Celma, was a Catholic priest and member of the Diocesan Laborer Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. He was born on June 18, 1875, in Calaceite, Teruel, Spain.

From a young age, Lorenzo displayed a deep devotion to his faith and a desire for a life of service to God. He pursued his vocation and was ordained as a priest, dedicating himself wholeheartedly to the pastoral care of his community.

During the tumultuous period of the Spanish Civil War, which took place from 1936 to 1939, Father Lorenzo remained steadfast in his commitment to his faith despite the growing unrest and persecution faced by the Catholic Church. The war was marked by intense ideological and religious conflict, with many priests and religious figures being targeted for their beliefs.

Tragically, Father Lorenzo Insa Celma became a victim of this violent persecution. On September 2, 1936, he was martyred in Tortosa, Tarragona, Spain, for refusing to renounce his faith. His unwavering commitment to Christ and the Church in the face of danger serves as a testament to his courage and devotion.

The Catholic Church recognized the sanctity of Father Lorenzo's life and the circumstances of his martyrdom. On March 27, 2013, Pope Francis decreed his martyrdom, declaring him venerable. Later, on October 13, 2013, Pope Francis beatified him, officially conferring upon him the title of Blessed Lorenzo Insa Celma.

Blessed Lorenzo Insa Celma is remembered and honored by the Catholic faithful on his feast day, which falls on September 2nd each year. His life and martyrdom serve as an inspiration to all those who face persecution for their faith and a reminder of the enduring power of conviction and sacrifice.
