Biography

Blessed Lorenzo De Medina García, also known as Lorenzo García Medina, was a Catholic priest of the diocese of Córdoba, Spain. He dedicated his life to serving the Belalcázar community, where he was born on October 1, 1867.

From a young age, Lorenzo felt a deep calling to the priesthood, and he pursued his studies with great dedication. After completing his theological education, he was ordained a priest and began his ministry serving the faithful in the diocese of Córdoba.

Father Lorenzo was known for his unwavering faith, compassion, and dedication to his parishioners. He tirelessly worked to spread the Good News of the Gospel and ministered to those in need, providing spiritual guidance and support. His gentle nature and kind heart endeared him to the community, and he was greatly loved and respected by those he served.

However, during the turbulent times of the Spanish Civil War, Father Lorenzo's faith and courage were put to the ultimate test. In the midst of religious persecution and violence, he steadfastly remained loyal to his Christian beliefs and refused to renounce his faith.

On August 20, 1936, in Belalcázar, Córdoba, Spain, Father Lorenzo De Medina García was martyred for his commitment to Christ and his refusal to abandon his religious calling. He bravely embraced his fate and accepted his martyrdom as a witness to the truth and the light of Christ.

Years later, on November 23, 2020, Blessed Lorenzo De Medina García was formally recognized for his martyrdom by Pope Francis. This decree of martyrdom acknowledged his sacrificial death in defense of his faith, and he was granted the title of "Blessed." The beatification ceremony, celebrating his recognition as a blessed, took place on October 16, 2021, at the Cathedral of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción in Córdoba, Spain. The ceremony was presided over by Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, representing the Holy Father.

Today, Blessed Lorenzo De Medina García is honored and venerated as a martyr and a shining example of faithfulness and devotion to God. His life and death serve as an inspiration and reminder of the sacrifices made by countless individuals who gave their lives for their faith during challenging times in history.
