Biography

Blessed Karoliny Kózkówny, also known as Caroline Kózkówny, Karolina Kózka, Karolina Kozkowna, or Karolina Kózkówny, is a revered Catholic figure and a martyr of purity. She was born on August 2, 1898, in Wal-Ruda, Poland, to Jan and Maria Borzechka Kózka, who were farmers. Karolina was the fourth of eleven children in her family.

Known for her devout faith and commitment to her Christian values, Karolina became a catechist at a young age. Despite her tender age, she displayed an unwavering dedication to spreading the teachings of the Catholic Church. Her commitment to her faith would be tested in a tragic and violent manner.

During her teenage years, Karolina encountered a Russian soldier who made inappropriate advances towards her. Driven by her steadfast devotion to her personal purity and the virtue of chastity, she firmly rejected his advances. Angered by her refusal, the soldier resolved to silence her.

In a horrific turn of events, the soldier kidnapped Karolina and took her into the nearby forest. There, in a heinous act, he attempted to rape her. Karolina, resolute in her faith and purity, fought back against her attacker. Tragically, the soldier's brutal assault led to Karolina's murder on November 18, 1914.

Following her death, Karolina's body was discovered in the forests around Wal-Ruda, Poland, on December 4, 1914. She was laid to rest in Zabawa, Poland, where her final resting place became a site of veneration for the faithful. The martyrdom of Karolina Kózkówny serves as a poignant testimony to her unwavering commitment to living a virtuous life.

Many have recognized the sanctity and holiness present in Karolina's life. On June 30, 1986, Pope John Paul II officially declared her venerable, acknowledging her martyrdom and the exemplary life she had led. A year later, on June 10, 1987, Pope John Paul II beatified Karolina Kózkówny in Tarnów, Poland, solidifying her status as a blessed figure in the Catholic Church.

Blessed Karoliny Kózkówny, the Maria Goretti of Poland, continues to be a source of inspiration and a model of youthful purity for Catholics around the world. Her life stands as a powerful reminder of the importance of upholding one's faith and staying true to moral values, even in the face of adversity and persecution.
