Biography

Blessed Justo Moreno Luque was a devoted priest of the diocese of Córdoba, Spain, serving in the Montemayor community. He was born on 8 November 1883 in Montemayor, a town located in the province of Córdoba.

Throughout his life, Blessed Justo Moreno Luque dedicated himself to the service of God and the Church. He was known for his deep faith, compassion, and commitment to helping others. As a priest, he played an active role in his parish, ministering to the spiritual needs of his community.

Unfortunately, during the tumultuous period of the Spanish Civil War, Blessed Justo Moreno Luque became a victim of religious persecution. On 25 July 1936, he was martyred in Fernán-N√∫ñez, another town in the province of Córdoba. He bravely refused to renounce his faith and remained steadfast in his commitment to Christ until the end.

His extraordinary witness of faith and his martyrdom did not go unnoticed. On 23 November 2020, Pope Francis recognized his heroic virtues and declared him venerable, acknowledging his exemplary life of holiness. This decree of martyrdom marked a significant step towards his beatification process.

On 16 October 2021, Pope Francis presided over the beatification recognition ceremony at the Cathedral of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción in Córdoba, Spain. The event was filled with joy and celebration as Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, representing the Holy Father, elevated Blessed Justo Moreno Luque to the rank of beatified.
