Biography

Blessed Justino Alarcón Vera, born on 1 August 1885 in Fuensalida, Toledo, Spain, was a devoted Catholic priest who served in the archdiocese of Toledo during the early 20th century. He dedicated his life to the service of God and his fellow believers, ultimately making the ultimate sacrifice in the Spanish Civil War.

Justino Alarcón Vera grew up in a devout Catholic family, where his parents instilled in him a strong faith and a deep sense of compassion for others. Inspired by their example, he felt a calling to the priesthood from a young age. He pursued his studies in theology and was ordained as a priest in the Archdiocese of Toledo.

As a priest, Justino Alarcón Vera served his parishioners diligently, providing spiritual guidance, celebrating Mass, administering the sacraments, and offering solace and support to those in need. On 1 August 1936, the very day of his 51st birthday, Blessed Justino Alarcón Vera was martyred in his hometown of Toledo, Spain. His martyrdom serves as a powerful testament to his enduring commitment to his vocation and his unwavering love for Christ.

In recognition of his heroic virtue and martyrdom, Blessed Justino Alarcón Vera was venerated by Pope Benedict XVI on 28 April 2006 through a decree of martyrdom. The Pope later beatified him on 28 October 2007, officially declaring him a blessed of the Catholic Church.

Blessed Justino Alarcón Vera's feast day is celebrated on 1 August, the day of his birth and martyrdom. He is remembered as a faithful shepherd who laid down his life for his flock, an example of unwavering faith and selflessness in the face of persecution.
