Blessed Jul Bonati, also known as Blessed Julian Bonati, was born on 24 May 1874 in Shkodôr, Albania. He received his education at the Jesuit Xaverian College in Shkodôr, where he demonstrated a deep devotion to the Catholic faith.

After completing his studies, Jul Bonati embarked on his religious journey and was ordained as a priest on 8 April 1906. His commitment to serving the Lord led him to serve the Catholic Albanians in Constantinople in 1912. During this time, he worked tirelessly to support and minister to the spiritual needs of the local community.

In recognition of his dedication and exemplary service, Jul Bonati was appointed as the Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Durrôs, Albania in 1927. This position allowed him to contribute significantly to the growth and development of the Church in the region.

In 1937, he was appointed as the Vicar of Vlora, Albania, where he continued his mission of spreading the Gospel and providing pastoral care to the faithful. Blessed Jul Bonati's unwavering faith and commitment to his calling made him a beloved and respected figure among his congregation.

However, his devotion to Christ and the Catholic faith made him a target of the Communist authorities who sought to suppress religious beliefs. On 25 March 1946, Blessed Jul Bonati was arrested for his unyielding faith and was imprisoned in Vlora. Throughout his imprisonment, he endured unimaginable torture and abuse at the hands of his captors.

Despite the immense suffering he endured, Blessed Jul Bonati never renounced his faith. His steadfastness and courage in the face of persecution served as a powerful testament to his unwavering dedication to God. Sadly, on 5 November 1951, Blessed Jul Bonati passed away while still in prison in Durrôs, Shkodôr, Albania.

Recognizing his martyrdom and his embodiment of the Christian virtues, Pope Francis declared him venerable on 26 April 2016. Later, on 5 November 2016, Pope Francis beatified Blessed Jul Bonati in a ceremony held at the Square of the Cathedral of Shôn Shtjefnit in Shkodôr, Albania.
