Tragically, during the Spanish Civil War, which took place from 1936 to 1939, Father Juan Pérez Rodríguez became a victim of the religious persecution of the time. On 25 August 1936, in the town of Tragamón, Gijón, Spain, he was martyred for his faith, bravely facing persecution and sacrificing his life in defense of his religious convictions.
