Biography

Blessed Juan Martorell Soria, born on 1 September 1889 in Picassent, Valencia, Spain, was a devoted Catholic priest and sacristan in his hometown parish of Saint Anthony the Abbot. His deep faith and commitment to serving God motivated him to join the Salesians, an order founded by Saint John Bosco, in 1923.

As a member of the Salesians, Blessed Juan Martorell Soria dedicated himself to the education and spiritual guidance of the youth. He worked diligently in various schools and parishes, touching the lives of many through his kind and selfless nature. His piety and virtue were evident to all who encountered him, and he was admired for his gentle demeanor and humble service.

Tragically, during the Spanish Civil War, a time of great upheaval and religious persecution, Blessed Juan Martorell Soria's faith and commitment were put to the ultimate test. Recognizing his exceptional sanctity and martyrdom, Pope John Paul II declared Blessed Juan Martorell Soria as venerable on 20 December 1999. Later, on 11 March 2001, he was beatified by the same pontiff, further highlighting his exemplary life and the ultimate sacrifice he made for his faith.
