Biography

Blessed Juan María Coca Gonzálezsaavedra, also known as Blessed Juan María Coca, was born on 24 December 1884 in Mairena del Alcor, Sevilla, Spain. He was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Sevilla on 18 December 1909.

After his ordination, Father Juan María Coca began his pastoral ministry as an assistant parish priest in Lora del Río on 14 October 1911. He dedicated himself wholeheartedly to serving the faithful and tirelessly spreading the message of the Gospel.

Tragically, during the turbulent period of the Spanish Civil War, Father Juan María Coca was martyred for his unwavering faith. On 1 August 1936, he was shot and killed in the municipal cemetery in Lora del Río. The circumstances surrounding his death exemplify his strong faith and steadfast commitment to Christ.

Despite the trials and challenges he faced, Father Juan María Coca remained resolute in his dedication to his calling as a priest. He faced persecution and hostility with courage and unwavering faith, ultimately sacrificing his own life for his beliefs.
