Blessed Juan Lanz Palanca, also known as Crisólogo, was born on 11 August 1880 in Pamplona, Navarra, Spain. He dedicated his life to serving God as a professed religious in the Brothers of the Christian Schools, also known as the De La Salle Brothers.

As a member of the De La Salle Brothers, Blessed Juan Lanz Palanca devoted himself to the field of education, helping to educate and form young minds in the ways of the Catholic faith. He was known for his dedication, compassion, and love for his students.

Sadly, during the turbulent times of the Spanish Civil War, religious persecution reared its ugly head. On 30 July 1936, Blessed Juan Lanz Palanca was martyred for his faith in the Casa de Campo area of Madrid, Spain. He, along with many other religious brothers and priests, faced persecution and violence as a result of their unwavering commitment to their Catholic beliefs.

Blessed Juan Lanz Palanca's testimony of faith in the face of persecution and his willingness to lay down his life for the Gospel were recognized by the Catholic Church. On 19 December 2011, Pope Benedict XVI issued a decree of martyrdom, officially recognizing him as a martyr. His beatification followed on 13 October 2013, with Pope Francis bestowing this honor upon him.
