Biography

Blessed Juan De Prunera, also known as Fray Juan de Prunera, was a Mercedarian friar who lived in the 15th century. He dedicated his life to the service of God and the liberation of Christians who were enslaved by Muslims during a period of intense conflict and religious tension.

Born in Catalonia, Spain, the specific details regarding Blessed Juan De Prunera's birth, early life, and family background are not widely documented. However, it is known that he joined the Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mercy, more commonly known as the Mercedarians, which was founded in the 13th century by Saint Peter Nolasco with the aim of ransoming Christian captives in the midst of the ongoing Spanish Reconquista.

Blessed Juan De Prunera committed himself to this noble cause, courageously venturing into territories where Christians were held captive by Muslim forces. He would personally negotiate with captors and use his influence to secure the freedom of these enslaved Christians. His selfless dedication and fervent prayers were instrumental in the successful release of numerous individuals who had been subjected to unimaginable suffering and hardship.
