Blessed Juan Aguilar Donis, often referred to as Blessed Juan, was a Dominican friar and Catholic martyr. He was born on June 1, 1886, in Amusco de Campos, Palencia, Spain. After completing his studies in philosophy and theology in Almagro, Spain, he was ordained as a priest in 1913.
Throughout his life, Blessed Juan served in various Dominican houses, including in Almería, Spain. However, during the difficult times of the Spanish Civil War, he faced persecution due to his unwavering commitment to his faith. The anti-Catholic Communist militia targeting clergy forced Blessed Juan into hiding to escape their clutches.
Unfortunately, on August 26, 1936, Blessed Juan's hiding place was discovered, leading to his arrest. He was imprisoned and subjected to severe torture for several days before his execution. In the early morning hours of September 3, 1936, he was shot at Pozo de La Lagarta, located in Tabernas, Almería, Spain.
Blessed Juan Aguilar Donis is recognized as a martyr who willingly gave his life for his faith. His unwavering devotion to Catholicism in the face of persecution serves as an inspirational example of faithfulness and love for God.
