Biography

Blessed Josep Ros Nadal, also known as Blessed Josep Ros Nadal, was a member of the Claretians and was professed on 8 December 1899. He was born on 14 October 1876 in Artesa de Lleida, Lleida, Spain.

Josep Ros Nadal dedicated his life to the service of God, becoming a part of the Claretian order. He lived a life of devotion and commitment, following in the footsteps of Saint Anthony Mary Claret, the founder of the Claretians. As a member of this religious congregation, he embraced a life of poverty, chastity, and obedience, striving to spread the Word of God through his actions and teachings.

During the tumultuous years of the Spanish Civil War, Josep Ros Nadal faced persecution and martyrdom for his unwavering faith. He remained steadfast in his beliefs, refusing to renounce his commitment to Christ. On 18 October 1936, he was tragically martyred in Cervera, Lleida, Spain.

The Claretian Martyrs were a group of 109 Spanish Claretian missionaries who were martyred during the Spanish Civil War for their faith. They were dedicated men who, like Josep Ros Nadal, faced persecution and violence but remained true to their beliefs until the end.

Blessed Josep Ros Nadal's feast days are celebrated on 18 October and 1 February as one of the 109 Spanish Claretian Martyrs. On 21 December 2016, Pope Francis decreed the martyrdom of Josep Ros Nadal, officially acknowledging his sacrifice for the faith. Following this, on 21 October 2017, he was beatified by Pope Francis at the Basilica of Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain. Archbishop Angelo Amato presided over the beatification ceremony, recognizing Josep Ros Nadal's exceptional holiness and dedication to God.

Today, Blessed Josep Ros Nadal stands as an inspiring figure of faith, a reminder of the sacrifices made by those who remain true to their beliefs, even in the face of persecution. His life and martyrdom serve as a testament to the enduring power of faith and serve as an example for all Catholics to follow.
