Biography

Blessed Josep Reixach Reguer, born on 13 June 1865 in Vilanova de Sau, Barcelona, Spain, was a member of the Claretians, a religious congregation founded by Saint Anthony Mary Claret. He professed his vows on 10 November 1891, committing himself to a life of service to God and the Church. Following his profession, Josep Reixach Reguer was ordained a priest on 6 April 1889.

During the turbulent times of the Spanish Civil War, Reverend Reixach Reguer faced persecution and martyrdom for his unwavering faith. His commitment to his calling and dedication to his spiritual mission led him to the ultimate sacrifice. He was martyred on 25 July 1936 in Sabadell, Barcelona, Spain.

Blessed Josep Reixach Reguer is celebrated as one of the 109 Spanish Claretian Martyrs, who exhibited exceptional courage and fidelity to their faith during this period of religious persecution. He is remembered and honored on his feast days, which occur on 25 July and 1 February, the latter being dedicated to the collective veneration of the Spanish Claretian Martyrs.

Recognizing his martyrdom, Pope Francis declared Josep Reixach Reguer venerable on 21 December 2016. This decree marked a significant step towards his eventual beatification. On 21 October 2017, Pope Francis presided over the beatification ceremony held at the Basilica of Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain. The beatification was celebrated by Archbishop Angelo Amato, who declared Josep Reixach Reguer to be blessed.
