Blessed Josep Martí Coll, also known as √Ängel of Ferreries, was a Franciscan Capuchin lay brother who was born on 11 February 1905 in Ferreries, Minorca, Islas Baleares, Spain. He made his first profession on 8 November 1923 and his solemn profession on 9 November 1927.
During his time as a lay brother, Blessed Josep Martí Coll resided in the convent in Sarriá, Barcelona, Spain. However, due to orders from his superiors, he was forced to leave the convent. Unfortunately, he was soon located by anti-Christian forces during the tumultuous period of the Spanish Civil War.
Tragically, on 28 July 1936, Blessed Josep Martí Coll was brutally murdered by Marxists. His dedication to his faith and his unwavering commitment to his religious calling led to his martyrdom. His sacrifice exemplified his steadfast devotion to God and the Catholic Church.
On 5 June 2015, Pope Francis recognized the heroic virtues of Blessed Josep Martí Coll, granting him the title of venerable. Later, on 21 November 2015, he was beatified by Pope Francis, with the elaborate ceremony taking place at the Cathedral of Santa Creu i Santa EulÖlia in Barcelona, Spain. The beatification ceremony was presided over by Cardinal Angelo Amato.
