Biography

Blessed Josep Más Pujolrás was a devout Catholic and member of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, also known as the De La Salle Brothers. Born on 13 August 1913 in Mieras, Girona, Spain, he grew up in a deeply religious family and early on displayed a strong devotion to his faith.

Josep joined the community of the De La Salle Brothers, dedicating his life to the service of God and the education of young people. As a dedicated teacher, he tirelessly worked to provide his students with a solid educational foundation combined with strong moral values. His genuine care and concern for his students endeared him to them, and they admired him for his strong faith and the example he set.

Tragically, during the Spanish Civil War, which occurred from 1936 to 1939, the Catholic Church and its religious members faced great persecution. On 25 July 1936, in Montcada, Barcelona, Spain, Blessed Josep Más Pujolrás was martyred for his unwavering commitment to his faith. He embraced his fate with courage and dignity, becoming a true martyr for the cause of Christianity.

Blessed Josep Más Pujolrás was officially recognized for his martyrdom on 22 June 2004 by Pope John Paul II. In a decree, Pope John Paul II acknowledged the heroic virtue and sacrifice of Brother Josep Benet. This recognition was followed by his beatification on 28 October 2007, by Pope Benedict XVI, affirming his status as Blessed.

Today, Blessed Josep Más Pujolrás serves as an inspiring example of faith, courage, and selflessness. His life and martyrdom stand as a testament to the enduring strength of the Catholic Church and the dedication of its members to the service of God. We honor and venerate him on his feast day, which is celebrated every year on 25 July, as a reminder of the sacrifices made in the pursuit of religious freedom and the eternal truths of the Catholic faith.
