Biography

Blessed Josep Badía Minguella, also known as Joseto, was a Catholic priest of the Archdiocese of Tarragona, Spain. He was born on September 18, 1863, in the small village of Salomó, located in the province of Tarragona.

Growing up in a deeply religious family, Josep felt a calling to the priesthood from a young age. He entered the seminary and was ordained a priest, dedicating his life to serving God and his community. Known for his piety, kindness, and dedication to his pastoral duties, Father Josep became a beloved figure among the faithful.

Sadly, during the turbulent times of the Spanish Civil War, religious persecution was rampant. Father Josep Badía Minguella became a target for opposing factions due to his unwavering faith and allegiance to the Catholic Church. On July 26, 1936, in the city of Reus, Tarragona, Father Josep was martyred for his commitment to Christ and refusal to renounce his religious beliefs.

Despite the challenges and dangers surrounding him, Blessed Josep Badía Minguella remained steadfast in his faith, providing spiritual guidance and comfort to his parishioners during the difficult times of the Spanish Civil War. Then, on October 13, 2013, Pope Benedict XVI beatified him, declaring that Father Josep Badía Minguella be honored as Blessed Josep Badía Minguella, forever to be remembered as a martyr of the Spanish Civil War.

Today, the feast day of Blessed Josep Badía Minguella is celebrated on July 26th, the day of his martyrdom. His life serves as a powerful reminder of the strength and conviction of those who choose to follow God's path, even during times of great adversity.
