During the turbulent period of the Spanish Civil War, Josefina demonstrated unwavering faith and courage. She remained steadfast in her dedication to her Catholic beliefs despite the severe persecution of Catholics during that time. Her deep love for Christ in the sacrament of the Eucharist served as a source of strength and inspiration in the face of adversity.
Tragically, Josefina met a martyr's death on 22 September, in her hometown of Alzira, Valencia, Spain. She was martyred for her unwavering faith and refusal to renounce her Catholicism. Josefina's courageous witness in the face of persecution exemplifies her profound commitment to Christ and the Gospel.
Recognizing her sanctity and martyrdom, Pope John Paul II declared Josefina Moscardó Montalvá venerable on 18 December 2000, acknowledging her heroism and the exceptional virtue she displayed in her life. On 11 March 2001, Pope John Paul II further confirmed Josefina's beatification, elevating her to the status of Blessed.
