Blessed José Xavier Gorosterratzu Jaunarena, also known as José de Urroz, was a Redemptorist priest in the diocese of Cuenca, Spain. He was born on August 7, 1877, in the town of Urroz de Santesteban, located in the region of Navarra, Spain. From a young age, José showed a deep devotion to the Catholic faith and a strong desire to serve God.
After completing his studies, José entered the Redemptorist Congregation, a religious order known for their commitment to preaching missions and devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. He was ordained a priest on July 22, 1900, and continued his ministry in various parts of Spain, always striving to spread the message of God's love and mercy.
During the turbulent period of the Spanish Civil War, which began in 1936, religious persecution escalated, and many priests and religious were targeted for their faith. Unfortunately, José Gorosterratzu became one of the victims of this persecution.
