He grew up in a devout Catholic family, cultivating a strong faith from a young age. Known for his sincerity and kindness, José was respected and loved by those who knew him.

During the turbulent times of the Spanish Civil War, José found himself caught in the midst of the religious persecution that plagued the country. Despite the risks, he fearlessly lived out his faith and openly proclaimed his Catholic beliefs. José actively participated in his local parish, offering assistance wherever it was needed and becoming a source of inspiration for fellow believers.

Tragically, on October 24, 1936, in Almagro, Ciudad Real, Spain, José Cascales Toral paid the ultimate price for his unwavering commitment to Catholicism. He was martyred, sacrificing his life for his faith during a time of great hostility towards the Church. His courageous and steadfast witness in the face of persecution serves as a testament to his deep love for God and his unwavering devotion to Catholic values.

Recognizing the sanctity of his life and his martyrdom, Pope Francis declared José Toral Cascales venerable on November 23, 2020.
