Blessed José María López Carrillo, also known as José López Carrillo, was a Dominican priest who was martyred during the Spanish Civil War. He is celebrated and venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church.
José María López Carrillo was born on 14th February 1892 in Alcalá la Real, a town in the province of Jaén, Spain. From a young age, he displayed a deep devotion to God and a strong desire to serve Him. This led him to enter the Dominican Order, where he received his religious formation and education.
As a Dominican priest, Blessed José María López Carrillo dedicated himself to the preaching of the Gospel and the spiritual care of his parishioners. He was known for his love of liturgy, his commitment to the sacraments, and his compassionate pastoral work.
Tragically, during the turmoil of the Spanish Civil War, Father López Carrillo fell victim to the religious persecution that plagued the country. On 27th August 1936, he was martyred in Madrid for his unwavering faith and allegiance to the Catholic Church.
