Biography

Blessed José Ibañez Mayandia was a Catholic priest and a member of the Vincentian Congregation of the Mission. He was born on 26 August 1877 in Puebla de Hijar, Teruel, Spain.

Father José dedicated his life to serving God and his fellow human beings as a priest. He joined the Vincentian Congregation of the Mission, also known as the Vincentians, which is a religious community founded by St. Vincent de Paul. The Vincentians are known for their commitment to serving the poor and marginalized.

During the turbulent period of the Spanish Civil War, Father José faced immense challenges in his mission. The war between the Republicans and Nationalists left a deep divide in Spanish society, including the Catholic Church. It was a time of intense persecution for the Church, with priests and religious being targeted for their faith.

Sadly, Father José Ibañez Mayandia became one of the victims of this religious persecution. He was martyred for his loyalty to his faith on 27 July 1936 in Madrid, Spain. He was killed for refusing to renounce his Catholic beliefs and standing firm in his commitment to God.

The beatification recognition ceremony was held at the Palacio Vistalegre Arena in Carabanchel, Madrid, Spain. It was presided over by Cardinal Angelo Amato and Cardinal Carlos Osoro Sierra of Madrid, marking a significant occasion for the Catholic Church in Spain.
