Biography

Blessed José Gomez De Haro, also known as José Gomez Sanchez, was a dedicated priest serving in the diocese of Almería, Spain during a tumultuous period in the country's history. He was born in the town of Vera, Almería on an unspecified date.

As a young man, José felt a calling to devote his life to the service of God and entered the seminary to pursue his studies for the priesthood. After completing his formation, he was ordained as a priest in the diocese of Almería.

Blessed José Gomez De Haro faithfully served as a priest, ministering to the spiritual needs of the local community and spreading the message of God's love and mercy. He was deeply committed to his pastoral duties and was known for his compassionate nature and dedication to the well-being of his parishioners.

Tragically, during the Spanish Civil War, which took place from 1936 to 1939, Spain experienced intense social and political unrest. As tensions escalated, the Catholic Church and its clergy became targets of persecution. Blessed José Gomez De Haro bravely stood firm in his faith even in the face of danger and oppression.

On the 30th of August 1936, in the small village of La Ballabona, Antas, Almería, Blessed José Gomez De Haro was martyred for his unwavering commitment to Christ and his Church. He sacrificed his own life, bearing witness to the Gospel ideals of love, forgiveness, and perseverance.

Recognizing his heroic virtues and martyrdom for the faith, Pope Francis declared José Gomez De Haro venerable on the 14th of June 2016. Later, on the 25th of March 2017, Pope Francis beatified him during a solemn ceremony held in the Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos de Aguadulce, Almería, Spain. The beatification Mass was presided over by Cardinal Angelo Amato, emphasizing the profound significance of José's life and the example he set.

Blessed José Gomez De Haro serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by countless individuals during a time of great turmoil. Through his beatification, the Catholic Church honors his steadfast faith and offers his intercession as a source of inspiration and guidance for the faithful.
