Blessed Jordan Forzatei

Biography

Blessed Jordan Forzatei, also known as Jordan of Padua, was born in 1158 in Padua, Italy. He entered the Benedictine order and became a monk at Padua. His dedication and piety quickly earned him recognition within the monastery, leading him to be appointed as the abbot at Saint Justina's Abbey in Padua.

While fulfilling his role as abbot, Jordan became involved in local politics and soon found himself playing a crucial role in the alliance of several Lombard cities. His diplomatic skills and influence were highly regarded, and he gained the trust and favor of the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II. Recognizing Jordan's capabilities, the emperor entrusted him with the governance of the city, which further solidified his position as a respected figure in both religious and political realms.

However, this newfound position of power also brought challenges. Count Ezzelino, a prominent figure in the region, became jealous of Jordan's influence and conspired against him. In a tragic turn of events, Jordan was unjustly accused and imprisoned for three long years.

Despite the hardships he faced during his imprisonment, Jordan's faith remained unwavering. He found solace in prayer, offering his sufferings as a sacrifice for the greater good. Eventually, due to the intervention and pleas from influential friends, Jordan was released from his unjust captivity.

After his release, Blessed Jordan Forzatei returned to his beloved Benedictine community. He continued to lead a life of deep devotion, sharing his spiritual wisdom with fellow monks and guiding them towards a life of holiness.

As the years went by, Jordan's health began to decline, and he spent his final days in Venice. He passed away in 1248, succumbing to natural causes at an advanced age.

Although Blessed Jordan Forzatei has not been officially venerated or beatified by the Catholic Church, his life and example of perseverance in the face of unjust adversity serve as an inspiration to all. His unwavering faith, coupled with his dedication to God and his community, have left a lasting impact on those who study his life and legacy.

On August 7th each year, faithful followers and scholars commemorate the life and virtues of Blessed Jordan Forzatei, celebrating his unwavering faith and his enduring commitment to his calling as a Benedictine monk and servant of God.
