Blessed John Baptist Machado De Tavora, also known as João Baptista Machado de Távora, was born in 1580 in Terceira, Portuguese Azores. He dedicated his life to serving God as a Jesuit in Coimbra, Portugal and later as a missionary in Japan.

Tragically, on May 22, 1617, Blessed John Baptist Machado De Tavora was martyred in Nagasaki, Japan.
