Biography

Blessed John Angelo Porro, also known as Giovannangelo Porro, is a revered figure in the Catholic Church. He was born in Seveso, Milan, Italy, in 1451, and from an early age, he demonstrated a deep devotion to God and a profound love for nature. Inspired by his faith and the desire to serve others, Porro joined the Servite Order in Milan in 1468, committing himself to a life of selfless dedication.

After completing his studies, John Angelo Porro was ordained as a priest in Florence, Italy. His sincere piety and commitment to his vocation were apparent to those around him, and he soon earned a reputation as a compassionate and effective minister. However, his true calling as a hermit became evident when he was assigned to the Monte Senario Servite hermitage.

For nearly two decades, blessed Porro resided in seclusion at the Monte Senario hermitage, located near Florence. Here, he immersed himself in solitude, prayer, and contemplation, finding solace and spiritual sustenance in the serene beauty of nature. John Angelo Porro was renowned for his profound connection to the natural world, which he saw as a reflection of God's divine handiwork.

Over time, word of Porro's holiness and wisdom began to spread within the Servite Order. Recognizing his talents and gifts, the Servite prior-general eventually recalled him from his hermitage and sent him back to Milan. Porro's mission was to minister to the people of Milan and to teach catechism to children in the streets, thereby spreading the word of God to those in need.

In Milan, Blessed John Angelo Porro became a beloved figure, known for his gentleness, compassion, and extraordinary ability to connect with people from all walks of life. His dedication to teaching catechism to children in the streets became a revered form of evangelization, extending the love and teachings of Jesus to the most vulnerable members of society.
