Blessed Jes√∫s Prieto López was a seminarian of the archdiocese of Oviedo, Spain. He was born on 28th August 1912 in Bodecangas, Asturias in Spain. Jes√∫s Prieto López dedicated his life to the service of God and aspired to become a Catholic priest.
During the Spanish Civil War, a period marked by great religious persecution, Jes√∫s Prieto López bravely stood firm in his faith and refused to renounce his religious beliefs. As a devout Catholic, he was vocal about his commitment to the Church and his refusal to abandon his calling to the priesthood.
Tragically, on 7th October 1934, in the city of Oviedo, Asturias, Jes√∫s Prieto López was martyred for his unwavering devotion to Catholicism. He faced persecution and persecution from anti-Catholic forces. In his final moments, he remained steadfast in his faith, offering his life in union with Christ's sacrifice.
Recognizing the holiness and martyrdom of Jes√∫s Prieto López, Pope Francis declared him venerable on 7th November 2018. This decree of martyrdom acknowledged his sacrifice and affirmed his heroic virtue. On 9th March 2019, Pope Francis further beatified Jes√∫s Prieto López, raising him to the rank of Blessed, during a solemn ceremony held at the Cathedral of San Salvador in Oviedo, Spain. The beatification Mass was presided over by Cardinal Giovanni Angelo Becciu, a representative of the Holy Father.
