Biography

Blessed Jes√∫s Hita Miranda, also known simply as Jes√∫s Hita Miranda, was a member of the Society of Mary (Marianists) who was martyred during the persecutions of the Spanish Civil War. He was born on April 17, 1909, in Calahorra, Logroño, Spain.

Jes√∫s Hita Miranda grew up in a devout Catholic family and developed a deep love for God and the Church from a young age. He felt a calling to the religious life and joined the Society of Mary, a religious congregation founded in France with a special devotion to the Virgin Mary.

As a Marianist, Jes√∫s dedicated himself to the service of God and others, seeking to follow the example of Jesus Christ. He was known for his faithfulness and commitment to his religious vows, as well as his compassion towards those in need.

Tragically, during the Spanish Civil War, religious persecution became rampant, leading to the imprisonment and execution of many clergy and religious. Jes√∫s was one of those who fell victim to this violence. On September 18, 1936, he was martyred at Alarcos, Ciudad Real, Spain, along with numerous other Catholics who refused to renounce their faith.

Jes√∫s Hita Miranda was recognized for his courageous witness to the Catholic faith and his ultimate sacrifice. In recognition of his martyrdom, Pope John Paul II declared him venerable on July 6, 1993, issuing a decree that acknowledged his martyrdom. This decree was an important step towards his beatification.

On October 1, 1995, Pope John Paul II beatified Jes√∫s Hita Miranda, elevating him to the rank of Blessed. This official recognition by the Catholic Church affirmed his sanctity and made him a role model for the faithful, particularly those facing religious persecution or challenging circumstances.

Although further historical information about Jes√∫s Hita Miranda's life is limited, his memory remains cherished among the faithful. His feast day is celebrated on September 18th each year, which is the anniversary of his martyrdom. Through his life and witness, Blessed Jes√∫s Hita Miranda continues to inspire and intercede for believers.
