Biography

Blessed Jeroni Fábregas Camí was a priest in the archdiocese of Tarragona, Spain, who was martyred during the Spanish Civil War. He was born on 5th December 1910 in L‚ÄôEspluga Calba, Lleida, Spain.

Jeroni Fábregas dedicated his life to the service of God and the Catholic Church, and he was ordained as a priest in the archdiocese of Tarragona. During his ministry, he gained a reputation for his devotion, piety, and compassion towards others, becoming a beloved figure among the local community.

However, during the tumultuous period of the Spanish Civil War in the late 1930s, persecution against Catholics arose, resulting in the martyrdom of numerous priests and religious figures. Unfortunately, Jeroni Fábregas became one of these victims. On 20th January 1939, he was captured in Santa Coloma de Queralt, Tarragona, and executed for his faith.

The courageous witness of Jeroni Fábregas in the face of persecution and his ultimate sacrifice for his beliefs have been recognized and celebrated within the Catholic Church. On 28th June 2012, Pope Benedict XVI decreed his martyrdom, acknowledging his death as a direct result of hatred towards his Catholic faith. The recognition of his martyrdom paved the way for his beatification, which took place on 13th October 2013, conducted by Pope Francis, in a solemn ceremony held in Tarragona, Spain.
