Biography

Blessed Jaume Trilla Lastra, also known as Brother Feliu Josep, was a member of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, a religious congregation founded by Saint John Baptist de La Salle. He was born on September 14, 1908, in Lleida, Spain. As a devoted brother, he dedicated his life to the education and spiritual formation of young people.

In the midst of political upheaval and turmoil during the Spanish Civil War, Brother Feliu Josep demonstrated great courage and unwavering faith. He bravely continued his work as a teacher, providing educational guidance and instilling Christian values in the hearts of his students. Despite the dangers and risks associated with his vocation, he remained committed to his mission.

Tragically, Brother Feliu Josep's life was cut short on March 19, 1937, in Barcelona, Spain. He became a victim of the violent persecution directed towards the Catholic Church during this tumultuous period. His unwavering dedication to his faith and his ultimate sacrifice earned him the status of martyr.

The heroic virtue and sacrifice displayed by Brother Feliu Josep were officially recognized on June 22, 2004, when Pope John Paul II issued a decree of martyrdom, declaring him venerable. On October 28, 2007, Pope Benedict XVI beatified him, a significant step towards his recognition as a saint.

Blessed Jaume Trilla Lastra is remembered and celebrated on his feast day, which falls on March 19th each year. As a devoted member of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, he remains an example of selfless service and faithfulness within the Catholic Church.
