Biography

Blessed Jaume Cortasa Moncl√∫s, also known as Pere, was born on 15 July 1883 in MillÖ, Lleida, Spain. He was a devoted monk and a member of the Marist Brothers of the Schools. The Marist Brothers were a religious congregation founded by Saint Marcellin Champagnat in France in the early 19th century, focused on providing education and spiritual guidance to young people.

Brother Jaume Cortasa Moncl√∫s dedicated his life to faith, serving as a teacher in Marist schools and nurturing the spiritual growth of his students. His commitment to the Gospel values and his selfless dedication earned him the respect and admiration of those around him.

Tragically, during the tumultuous times of the Spanish Civil War, Brother Jaume Cortasa Moncl√∫s was martyred for his faith. On 2 January 1937, in Cabezón de la Sal, Santander, Spain, he was executed, bearing witness to his unwavering commitment to Christ. Recognizing the heroic virtues and sacrifice of Brother Jaume Cortasa Moncl√∫s, Pope Francis declared his veneration on 3 June 2013, issuing a decree of martyrdom. The Pope later beatified him on 13 October 2013, acknowledging his sanctity and his profound impact on the spiritual lives of others.
