Biography

Blessed James Aymerich, also known as James of Barcelona, was a renowned Mercedarian friar and a significant figure in the Catholic Church during the 15th century. Born in Barcelona, Spain, his exact date of birth is unknown, but historical records indicate that he lived from an unknown date to 23rd December 1428.

After entering the Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mercy, more commonly known as the Mercedarians, James dedicated his life to the service of God and his fellow human beings. His exceptional qualities and devotion to the faith led him to be elected as the Master General of the Mercedarians on 8th April 1419. As the leader of the Mercedarian Order, James Aymerich undertook several initiatives to improve the functioning of Mercedarian convents in various cities.

James possessed not only spiritual wisdom but also remarkable administrative skills, allowing him to address financial and debt-related issues within the Mercedarian communities.
