Blessed Jacinto Serrano López, also known as Jacinto Serrano, was a Dominican priest and martyr during the Spanish Civil War. He was born on July 30, 1901, in Urrea de Gaén, Teruel, Spain.
From an early age, Jacinto showed a deep devotion to his Catholic faith, and this led him to join the Dominican Order. He entered the novitiate of the Dominicans and made his first profession of vows as a religious brother in the order.
After completing his initial formation, Jacinto continued his studies in philosophy and theology, displaying a keen intellect and a strong desire to become a priest. He was ordained to the priesthood, and he embraced his vocation with great enthusiasm and commitment.
During the troubled times of the Spanish Civil War, religious persecution was rampant, and clergy members were specifically targeted. Despite the dangerous circumstances, Father Jacinto fearlessly continued to serve the spiritual needs of his community, offering solace and guidance to the faithful.
Tragically, on November 25, 1936, Father Jacinto Serrano López was martyred in Híjar, Teruel, Spain, giving his life for his faith. His unwavering dedication and courage in the face of persecution made him a true witness to the Gospel.
Father Jacinto's heroic witness was recognized by the Catholic Church, and he was venerated on December 20, 1999, by Pope John Paul II, who declared his martyrdom. Later, on March 11, 2001, Pope John Paul II beatified Father Jacinto Serrano López, elevating him to the rank of Blessed.
