Biography

Blessed Isidoro Primo Rodríguez, also known as Edmigio or Edmigius, was a devoted member of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, commonly known as the De La Salle Brothers. He was born on 4 April 1881 in Adalia, Palencia, Spain.

Isidoro Primo Rodríguez entered the novitiate of the De La Salle Brothers on 3 August 1898, and during this time, he took the name Edmigio. On 8 October 1898, he received the habit of the religious order, showing his commitment to a life of service to God and education. His dedication and passion led him to embrace the teachings and mission of the congregation wholeheartedly.

Throughout his religious life, Edmigio served in various schools, sharing his knowledge and faith with countless students. He became renowned for his effective teaching methods and compassionate approach to education. His commitment to fostering a deep understanding of Catholicism among his students was greatly valued.

One notable assignment that Edmigio undertook was his service at Saint Joseph College in Almería, Spain. His influence and impact in this educational institution were profound, touching the lives of the students under his care. However, despite his dedication to spreading the message of Christianity, Edmigio's life took a tragic turn with the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War.

During the Spanish Civil War, the anti-Catholic Popular Front forces arrested Edmigio due to his association with teaching Christianity. He faced persecution for his faith and unwavering commitment to his religious beliefs. On 31 August 1936, Edmigio was mercilessly executed by being shot in the head in Pozo de la Lagarta, Tabernas, Almería, Spain. His body was callously discarded and thrown into a well.

Edmigio's death marked him as one of the Martyrs of Almería, a group of individuals who suffered martyrdom during the Spanish Civil War due to their allegiance to Catholicism. On 31 August, the day of his martyrdom, is commemorated as his feast day. Moreover, he is remembered alongside his fellow martyrs on 16 November, collectively celebrated as the Martyrs of Almería.

Although Edmigio's representation is unspecified, his bravery, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to his faith are celebrated by the Catholic Church. While his cause for beatification is currently unknown, his life serves as an inspiration and a reminder of the ultimate sacrifice individuals can make for their beliefs.
