Biography

Blessed Isaac Carrascal Moso was a member of the Claretians, a religious congregation of priests and brothers founded by Saint Anthony Mary Claret. He was born on 11 April 1896 in Castrillo de Don Juan, Palencia, Spain. Blessed Isaac Carrascal Moso was professed as a member of the Claretians on 15 August 1915, dedicating his life to serve God and his people.

After several years of studies and formation, Isaac Carrascal Moso was ordained as a priest on 26 May 1923. Throughout his priesthood, he zealously carried out his pastoral duties, spreading the Gospel message and providing spiritual guidance to those under his care. He demonstrated a deep devotion to his vocation and a profound love for God and the Church.

Tragically, during the Spanish Civil War, which was marked by intense religious persecution, Blessed Isaac Carrascal Moso was martyred for his faith. He met his untimely death on 14 October 1936, in Torrelavega, Santander, Spain. Like many other dedicated clergymen of the time, he became a victim of violence and hatred due to his unwavering commitment to Christ.

The exemplary life and virtuous death of Isaac Carrascal Moso were recognized by the Catholic Church. Pope Francis, on 21 December 2016, declared him venerable, acknowledging his martyrdom. This recognition signifies that Isaac Carrascal Moso willingly sacrificed his life in witness to his Christian faith. His beatification followed on 21 October 2017, celebrated at the Basilica of Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain. The beatification ceremony was presided over by Archbishop Angelo Amato.

Blessed Isaac Carrascal Moso's feast days are celebrated on 14 October, the day of his martyrdom, and on 1 February, along with the other 109 Spanish Claretian Martyrs. As a blessed of the Catholic Church, Isaac Carrascal Moso is venerated, and his life serves as an inspiration for believers to remain steadfast in their faith, even in the face of adversity.
