Birth: July 14, 1887
Death: September 1, 27
Blessed Herminia Martínez Amigó De Martínez, also known as Erminia Martinez Amigo, was a laywoman in the Archdiocese of Valencia, Spain. She was born on July 14, 1887, in Pu√ßol, Valencia. On February 24, 1916, she entered into holy matrimony with Santos Juanes and they had two daughters. Unfortunately, both of their daughters died in infancy.
Herminia and her husband were blessed with financial abundance, but instead of indulging in material wealth, they dedicated themselves to acts of charity and service to the poor. They lived a life of devotion and selflessness, embodying the teachings of the Catholic Church. They became renowned for their generosity and compassion, and their lives were a true reflection of their faith.
Herminia was an active member of Catholic Action, a lay movement promoting the involvement of the laity in the mission of the Church. This organization provided her with an avenue to further express her dedication to her Catholic faith and her desire to serve others.
Tragically, during the Spanish Civil War, Herminia, along with her husband, fell victim to the persecution targeting Catholics. On September 27, 1936, Herminia was tragically shot in Gilet, Valencia, Spain, for her unwavering faith and her commitment to helping others. Her martyrdom is a testament to her unyielding belief in God and her willingness to sacrifice her life for her religious convictions.
Blessed Herminia Martínez Amigó De Martínez was officially recognized for her martyrdom on December 18, 2000, by Pope John Paul II, who issued a decree acknowledging her heroic sacrifice. She was beatified on March 11, 2001, by the same Pope.
Today, she is venerated as a blessed in the Catholic Church, particularly in the Archdiocese of Valencia. Her life serves as an inspiration to all, reminding us of the importance of selflessness, charity, and unwavering faith in the face of adversity. On her feast day, September 27, we remember her courage, devotion, and ultimate sacrifice for her beliefs.
