Biography

Blessed Henry of Austria, also known as Henry of Spain, was a Mercedarian lay knight known for his exceptional qualities of openness, charity, and deep prayer life. Born on an unknown date, his early life remains a mystery. However, it is known that Blessed Henry dedicated his life to serving God and his fellow Christians.

One of the most notable events in Blessed Henry's life took place in Tunis. He embarked on a mission to free Christians who were held captive as slaves by Muslims. During his time in Tunis, Blessed Henry fearlessly expressed his Christianity publicly, even in the face of persecution and the threat to his own life. As a result of his unwavering faith and courageous actions, he was scourged by his captors. Miraculously, he survived this brutal punishment and eventually returned to Spain.

Blessed Henry's unwavering dedication to his faith and his remarkable missionary work made him a revered figure, especially among the Mercedarians. The Mercedarian Order, also known as the Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mercy, was a religious order focused on the redemption of Christian captives.
