Blessed Grimo of Ursberg, also known as Gremo, Grim, or Gruno, was a devout Premonstratensian monk who held a deep devotion to Christ in the Passion. He was born around 1100 and dedicated his life to serving God and the Church.
In 1136, Blessed Grimo became the second abbot of the Premonstratensian monastery in Ursberg, located in Bavaria, Germany. For the next 37 years, he diligently fulfilled his duties as the leader of the monastic community. Known for his wisdom and piety, Blessed Grimo ran the monastery in strict adherence to the Rule of their Order.
During his abbacy, tragedy struck when a fire destroyed the monastery in 1142. Unfazed by the devastation, Blessed Grimo took it upon himself to rebuild the entire structure. With the support of the imperial authorities in 1143, he successfully reconstructed the monastery, ensuring that it continued to thrive and fulfill its spiritual mission.
Blessed Grimo's virtues and leadership attracted the attention and admiration of prominent figures of his time. Popes, kings, and emperors held him in high regard for his profound spirituality and dedication to his calling.
Legend has it that Blessed Grimo performed a notable miracle on Good Friday. According to the tale, he miraculously turned water into wine three times as it was needed. This miraculous event serves as a testament to his closeness to Christ and his devotion to the Passion.
Blessed Grimo of Ursberg lived a long and fruitful life, diligently serving God and his community until his death in 1173. He passed away of natural causes, leaving behind a legacy of faith, holiness, and perseverance.
