Biography

Blessed Giustino of Paris, also known as Justin of Paris, was a renowned figure of the 14th century who dedicated his life to the service of God and the redemption of Christians held captive by the Moors in Granada, Spain. Born in Paris, France, Giustino received an education in law and eventually became a prominent professor at the University of Paris.

Driven by his unwavering faith and deep sense of justice, Giustino felt a calling to defend those Christians who had fallen victim to the Christian-Muslim conflicts of the time. Joining the Mercedarian Order as a secular knight, he was subsequently stationed in Valencia, Spain, where he honed his skills as a warrior dedicated to rescuing Christians imprisoned by the Moors.

In 1337, Giustino was specifically assigned to Granada, a highly troubled region where the Christian population was heavily persecuted and in danger of losing their faith due to fear and oppression. Embracing his mission with resolve and compassion, Giustino worked tirelessly to negotiate the release of captive Christians and to uplift the spirits of those who were at the brink of renouncing their beliefs.

Unfortunately, his selfless efforts did not go unnoticed by the Moors, who saw him as a threat to their dominance and a symbol of hope for the Christian community.
