Biography

Blessed Gaius Xeymon, also known as Caius, was born in Japan to devout Christian parents. Little is known about his early life, but it is evident that he grew up in a family deeply committed to their faith. As a young man, Gaius felt a calling to dedicate his life to God and joined the Dominican Order as a tertiary.

Gaius wholeheartedly embraced his role as a Dominican tertiary and found joy in assisting the friars with their missionary work. During a time when Christianity was met with intense persecution in Japan, Gaius fearlessly ventured out into dangerous territories to spread the Gospel and extend support to the friars as they ministered to the local populace.

Gaius's selfless efforts to further the mission of the Church in Japan did not go unnoticed. Sadly, it was precisely his devotion to the Christian faith and his missionary work that ultimately led to his martyrdom. On 17 August 1627, Gaius was put to death for his unwavering commitment to Christ, joining the many brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives for their beliefs.
