Biography

Blessed Froilán Lanero Villadangos was an Augustinian priest who became a martyr during the Spanish Civil War. He was born on October 3, 1910, in Villadangos, a town in the province of León, Spain.

Froilán Lanero Villadangos was raised in a devout Catholic family and displayed early signs of piety and dedication to his faith. Recognizing his vocation to the priesthood, he entered the Order of Saint Augustine and was ordained a priest.

During the turbulent years of the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939), when political and social unrest divided the nation, Froilán found himself caught in the midst of this turmoil. He remained steadfast in his commitment to both his religious calling and his fellow men, providing spiritual comfort and support to those affected by the conflict.

Tragically, on July 28, 1936, in Vallecas, Madrid, at the age of just 25, Froilán Lanero Villadangos became a victim of the violence that permeated the Spanish Civil War. He was martyred for his faith and dedication to the gospel teachings he preached.

Blessed Froilán Lanero Villadangos was recognized for his martyrdom and venerated by Pope Benedict XVI on June 1, 2007, with the decree of martyrdom. His beatification followed on October 28, 2007, by Pope Benedict XVI.
