Blessed Frano Gjini was born on 20 February 1886 in Shkodôr, Albania. He was ordained a priest in the diocese of Shkodrô on 28 June 1908. Throughout his lifetime, Frano Gjini served in various pastoral roles, showcasing his deep commitment to the Church and its people.

In 1918, he became the Vicar-General of the archdiocese of Durrôs, Albania, displaying his leadership and administrative skills. Frano Gjini also served as a parish priest in several locations, including Durrôs, Derven of Fushô Krujô, Kurbin, and Perlat of Kthella, Albania.

Recognized for his devotion and dedication to the faith, Frano Gjini was selected as the abbot of the Abbey Nullius of Saint Lelezhdri of Orosh in Mirdita on 29 June 1930. Not long after, on 28 October 1930, he was consecrated as the titular bishop of Semta.

Frano Gjini's zeal for spreading the gospel led to his appointment as the apostolic delegate to Albania on 11 November 1945. He assumed this role after the previous delegate was denied re-entry into the country. Subsequently, on 4 January 1946, he was chosen as the bishop of Lezhô, Albania, further reinforcing his commitment to serving the local Christian community.

However, his steadfast commitment to the Church ultimately led to his persecution during a tumultuous period in Albania's history. Frano Gjini was arrested by Communist authorities in Shkodrô on 15 November 1946 for his continued efforts to support the Church. After an unjust trial, he was sentenced to death on 8 January 1948 and subsequently executed.

Recognizing his martyrdom, his sacrifice, and his unwavering faith, Pope Francis venerated Frano Gjini on 26 April 2016 through a decree of martyrdom. This veneration was followed by his beatification on 5 November 2016, with the ceremony taking place at the Square of the Cathedral of Shôn Shtjefnit in Shkodôr, Albania. Cardinal Angelo Amato led the beatification ceremony, highlighting Frano Gjini's exemplary life and testifying to his sanctity.

Blessed Frano Gjini's life exemplified a deep devotion to the Church and a steadfast commitment to his faith, even in the face of persecution. His unwavering dedication to serving the people of Albania, despite the challenging circumstances, has made him an inspiration to Catholics worldwide.
