Biography

Blessed Franciszek Kesy, born on 13 November 1920 in Berlin, Germany, was a young layman who lived in the archdiocese of Poznan, Poland. He was the son of a carpenter who moved his family to Poznan in search of work.

Franciszek had a deep sense of spirituality from an early age and felt a calling to religious life, particularly to the Salesian Order. However, his plans to enter the Salesian novitiate were abruptly interrupted by the German invasion of Poland in 1939. Despite this setback, Franciszek remained committed to his faith and devoted his time to working in a factory.

During his free time, Franciszek would often visit the Salesian oratory. He was a consistent attendee of Mass, attending every morning to receive the Holy Eucharist. His devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary was also evident as he spent his evenings praying the rosary.

What truly set Franciszek apart was his selflessness and willingness to help anyone in need. He would go out of his way to assist those around him and was known for his kind and compassionate nature. Even during the difficult times of World War II, Franciszek's commitment to serving others remained unwavering.

Tragically, Franciszek fell victim to the Nazi persecutions and was martyred for his faith. On 24 August 1942, he was guillotined in Dresden, Germany, at the young age of 21. Franciszek's martyrdom was a testament to his unwavering dedication to Christ, even in the face of extreme adversity.

Recognizing his heroic virtue and martyrdom, Franciszek Kesy was venerated on 26 March 1999 by Pope John Paul II, who declared him a martyr. On 13 June 1999, Pope John Paul II further offered the beatification ceremony for Blessed Franciszek Kesy in Warsaw, Poland, elevating him to the status of the Blessed in the Catholic Church.

Blessed Franciszek Kesy's courageous witness of faith and his commitment to helping others serve as an inspiration for all. His feast day is celebrated on 24 August, and he is also remembered on 12 June as one of the 108 Martyrs of World War II. May his life continue to inspire and guide us in our own Christian journey.
