Blessed Francisco Sánchez Márquez, also known as Francisco Tomás Márquez Sánchez or Francisco Tomás de San Juan Bautista Márquez y Sánchez, was born on June 24, 1866, in Alpandeire, a small village in Málaga, Spain. He was the eldest of four children in a rural peasant family.

At the age of 33, he joined the Capuchin order as a monk and assumed the religious name of Leopoldo de Alpandeire.
Francisco wholeheartedly embraced the Capuchin way of life, wearing the cowl for over 56 years. He served as a beggar for his monastery, traversing the streets of Granada, asking for donations to support his community. Alongside his humble alms-collecting, he would offer counsel and impart blessings to those who sought his wisdom and guidance.
Renowned for his piety and wisdom, Francisco became a shining example of a quiet Christian life characterized by virtue. Recognizing his exemplary life, Pope Benedict XVI declared Francisco Sánchez Márquez as Venerable on March 15, 2008, recognizing his heroic virtues. Following further investigation and recognition of a miracle attributed to his intercession, he was beatified on September 12, 2010, by Pope Benedict XVI. The beatification ceremony took place at the Armilla Air Base in Granada, Spain, presided over by Archbishop Angelo Amato.
