Born on 25 May 1906 in Grañon, Logroño, Spain, Francisco Del Valle Villar grew up in a devout Catholic family. Brother Leon Justino, along with many others who professed their faith, became the target of persecution and martyrdom.
On 2 December 1936, in Manresa, Barcelona, Brother Leon Justino became one of the countless victims of religious persecution during the Spanish Civil War. He was martyred for his unwavering devotion to his Catholic faith and his commitment to the service of God. Despite the extreme danger, Brother Leon Justino remained steadfast in his faith until the very end, bearing witness to his belief in Christ.
In recognition of his sacrifice and exemplary life, Brother Leon Justino was venerated on 22 June 2004 by Pope John Paul II, who decreed his martyrdom. Pope Benedict XVI further affirmed his status as a blessed on 28 October 2007, during his pontificate.
