Blessed Francisco Del Valle Villar, also known as Brother Leon Justino, was a devoted member of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, a religious congregation founded by Saint John Baptist de la Salle. The life of Brother Leon Justino was marked by unwavering faith and dedication to his religious calling.

Born on 25 May 1906 in Grañon, Logroño, Spain, Francisco Del Valle Villar grew up in a devout Catholic family. From an early age, he displayed a strong spiritual inclination and a desire to serve others. Recognizing his vocation, Francisco joined the Brothers of the Christian Schools, a community that dedicated itself to educating children, especially those in need.

As a member of the religious order, Brother Leon Justino embraced the mission of the Brothers of the Christian Schools with wholehearted commitment. Known for his kindness, intelligence, and gentle demeanor, he quickly became a beloved figure among the students and his fellow brothers.

However, the peaceful life Brother Leon Justino knew was soon shattered by the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War in 1936. During this turbulent period, religious intolerance and violence swept across Spain. Brother Leon Justino, along with many others who professed their faith, became the target of persecution and martyrdom.

On 2 December 1936, in Manresa, Barcelona, Brother Leon Justino became one of the countless victims of religious persecution during the Spanish Civil War. He was martyred for his unwavering devotion to his Catholic faith and his commitment to the service of God. Despite the extreme danger, Brother Leon Justino remained steadfast in his faith until the very end, bearing witness to his belief in Christ.

In recognition of his sacrifice and exemplary life, Brother Leon Justino was venerated on 22 June 2004 by Pope John Paul II, who decreed his martyrdom. Pope Benedict XVI further affirmed his status as a blessed on 28 October 2007, during his pontificate.
