Biography

Blessed Francisco Carceller Galindo, also known as Father Francisco of Our Lady of Lourdes, was a Piarist priest who was martyred in the Spanish Civil War. He is venerated as a blessed in the Catholic Church.

Francisco Carceller Galindo was born on 3 October 1901 in Forcall, Castellón, Spain. From an early age, he displayed a deep devotion to God and a strong desire to serve the Church. Recognizing this calling, he entered the Piarist religious order and was ordained as a priest.

Father Francisco dedicated his life to educating and guiding young people, following the charism of the Piarist order. He was known for his kindness, gentleness, and piety, and he made a significant impact on the lives of the students under his care.

Tragically, during the Spanish Civil War, Father Francisco fell victim to the violent persecution of the Church. On 2 October 1936, he was shot to death next to the wall of the cemetery in Castellón, Spain. He heroically embraced his martyrdom, remaining steadfast in his faith until his last breath.

The devotion and reputation of Father Francisco did not fade with his death. His martyrdom was recognized by the Catholic Church, and on 15 December 1994, Pope John Paul II decreed his martyrdom, formally acknowledging his sanctity. A year later, on 1 October 1995, Pope John Paul II beatified him, declaring him blessed.

Blessed Francisco Carceller Galindo serves as a powerful example of courage, faith, and dedication to the church, particularly in the face of persecution.
