Biography

Blessed Francesc Solá Peix, also known as Francesc Solá Peix, was a devout member of the Claretians and is recognized as one of the 109 Spanish Claretian Martyrs. He was born on 17 April 1900 in S. Joan de les Abadesses, Girona, Spain.

Francesc Solá Peix dedicated his life to serving God and spreading the teachings of the Catholic faith as a Claretian missionary. He was known for his unwavering faith, his compassion for others, and his dedication to his vocation.

During the tumultuous period of the Spanish Civil War, Francesc faced tremendous persecution and opposition due to his religious beliefs. Sadly, he became a martyr for his faith when he was tragically killed on 19 October 1936 in Mas Claret, Sant Pere dels Arquells, Lleida, Spain.

Francesc Solá Peix, together with many other Claretian Martyrs, suffered for their refusal to renounce their faith in the face of extreme hostility. Their sacrifice serves as a testament to their unwavering commitment to God, even in the midst of great adversity.

Recognizing the holiness and martyrdom of Francesc Solá Peix, on 21 December 2016, Pope Francis declared him venerable. Subsequently, on 21 October 2017, Pope Francis beatified him during a solemn ceremony held at the Basilica of Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain. The beatification ceremony was presided over by Archbishop Angelo Amato, who represented the Holy See.

The beatification of Francesc Solá Peix not only honors his martyrdom but also serves as an inspiration for believers, encouraging them to remain steadfast in their faith amidst any challenges they may face. His feast day is celebrated on 19 October, the day of his martyrdom, and is also commemorated on 1 February as one of the 109 Spanish Claretian Martyrs.
