Biography

Blessed Francesc Salla Saltó, also known as Brother Pere Magí, was a deeply devoted Catholic monk and member of the Brothers of the Christian Schools. He was born on September 3, 1918, in the village of Els Omells de Na Gaia, located in the province of Lleida, Spain.

From an early age, Francesc displayed a strong inclination towards a life of faith and service to God. Recognizing his vocation, he joined the Brothers of the Christian Schools, a religious congregation founded by St. John Baptist de La Salle and dedicated to the education of young people, particularly the poor.

Brother Pere Magí was admired by his fellow brothers for his unwavering commitment to his religious duties and his genuine love for the students he taught. He dedicated himself wholeheartedly to educating the children, striving not only to impart knowledge but also to foster their spiritual growth and moral development.

Unfortunately, the turbulent period of the Spanish Civil War brought great suffering and persecution to the Catholic Church in Spain. It was during this time that Brother Pere Magí, along with many other religious brothers and priests, faced intense hostility due to their faith.

Tragically, on July 30, 1938, Brother Pere Magí was martyred in the village of Juncosa, located in the province of Lleida. He bravely endured persecution and ultimately gave his life for his unwavering commitment to the Catholic faith.

In recognition of his martyrdom and his exemplary witness to Christian virtues, Pope Benedict XVI, on June 28, 2012, decreed the official recognition of Brother Pere Magí's martyrdom. This act of veneration by the Pope acknowledged his sacrifice and established him as a celebrated figure within the Catholic Church.

Later, on October 13, 2013, Pope Francis declared Brother Pere Magí blessed, further highlighting his sanctity and the significance of his life. The beatification ceremony took place with great joy and reverence in Tarragona, Spain, honoring his memory and inviting the faithful to seek his intercession.

Blessed Francesc Salla Saltó, or Brother Pere Magí, serves as an example of a faithful disciple of Christ who demonstrated courage and fortitude in the face of persecution. His life reminds us of the importance of living out our faith, even in challenging circumstances, and his intercession continues to inspire and guide the faithful.
